Location:Choose a spot with full sun or light shade, and protect from late spring frosts. In warmer climates, provide midday shade for the roots::Soil:Use moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil with a pH of 6.0–6.5:: Planting: Space vines 10–15 feet apart, and water well. Trim roots if they are too long. Pruning: Prune in winter and summer. In winter, remove dead or crossed branches, and branches that produced fruit the previous season. In summer, remove long, arching vines that extend beyond the developing fruits. Harvesting: Kiwis are ripe when they start to soften. You can expect to get some fruit after 3 years, and a full harvest after about 6 years. Mulching: Mulch with compost or shredded leaves, keeping it 3 inches away from the base of the plant.
